PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder is most often associated with the use of Bermondsey EMDR In the Office we use this treatment procedure with several other applications as well. Research has clearly demonstrated that EMDR is highly effective in treating PTSD and other types of trauma in adults as well as in children.

It is used to treat cases where children have been abused, including sexual abuse, as well as being used in the same traumatic situations with adult clients. In recent studies EMDR has also been demonstrated as being effective in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) that is often very challenging to treat using traditional psychotherapy methods. Other treatments using EMDR can include anxiety and phobias, addictions, eating disorders and stress related issues.

Bermondsey EMDR in the Office is used as part of a holistic or integrated approach to working with our clients. Each individual will have his or her own unique treatment plan that is developed by a team of psychotherapists with international experience in assisting clients. With the team approach and an integrated treatment plan each patient will receive the treatment and services they need to develop new, healthy and positive ways of experiencing life.

What To Expect Bermondsey EMDR In the Office

Bermondsey EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is unlike most other types of psychotherapy, although it does include elements of talk therapy and requires the therapist and client to work closely together during the treatment process. Our staff offering EMDR has years of experience in providing EMDR with clients of all ages and those experiencing all types of trauma.

The basis of Bermondsey EMDR in the Office involves mentally experiencing the trauma while completing a very specific series of eye movements. The psychotherapist is there to guide you through the mental experience of the trauma while also having you identify the thoughts, physical sensations and the emotional sensations that you experienced. As you move your eyes back and forth, following the therapists finger movements, you will be asked to think of more positive mental images around the traumatic event.

After completing the exercises, you will find that the negative response to thinking about the trauma or the source of the trauma is noticeable diminished. With repeated sessions this decrease will continue until you no longer experience the anxiety, stress and distress around that particular event in your life.

Our psychotherapists practicing E.M.D.R in the Bermondsey Office will discuss your thoughts and responses to the treatment, and to your recall of the traumatic event or events in your life. You will be intimately involved in creating positive and realistic thoughts around the trauma that will allow you to effectively cope with these issues in your life moving forward.

Research has shown that EMDR is highly effective for several mental health conditions. When used as part of a holistic approach to treatment, it has significant benefits over conventional talk types of psychotherapy, making it a valuable treatment option for many of our clients.
