EMDR therapy for Bermuda

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is the most strongly evidence-based treatment for psychological trauma, recommended by the WHO and by NICE as a first-line treatment for post-traumatic stress. Dr Philippe Jacquet has practised EMDR for more than twenty years, and offers it to people across Bermuda online by secure video, following the same protocol as in-person work.

Trauma beneath a composed surface

Hamilton’s reinsurance and asset-management community is built to look composed, and the people in it are practised at carrying on. Beneath that surface, many carry trauma that never gets addressed: earlier loss or abuse, the accumulated cost of years of pressure, or events from before life in Bermuda. Island life can compound it. The extreme isolation of a rock you cannot easily leave, the distance from family, the very high cost of living, and the constant professional focus on modelling catastrophe all take a toll that rarely shows at work.

This kind of complex, diffuse trauma needs a careful, staged approach, which is where twenty years of EMDR practice combined with Jungian analytic depth becomes clinically decisive. A significant proportion of people with an addiction also carry unresolved trauma beneath it, and Dr Jacquet’s dual training lets him work on both rather than treating one and missing the other. On a small island where being seen seeking help is almost impossible to keep private, the online model matters: the work is done entirely by secure video, with no local footprint, at a pace the individual sets.
