EMDR for the Netherlands, online

Dr Philippe Jacquet trained in EMDR in 2006 and has practised it for twenty years, within a wider therapeutic relationship rather than as a standalone procedure. Sessions for people in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and across the Netherlands are delivered online by secure video, in English or French.

Where EMDR is genuinely strong

A single bounded event: a crash, an assault, a medical emergency, watching someone die. Something located in time, with a before and an after. In those cases EMDR can be remarkable, and faster than people expect.

Where it needs more care

Trauma that has no single date. A childhood spent managing an unpredictable parent, years in a relationship that could not be left, a long period in which there was no way to fight and no way to leave. That is a different clinical animal, and it is where a quick protocol is least likely to deliver.

The distinction worth knowing is that experiencing something terrible is not the same as developing PTSD. Most people who go through something dreadful do not. What marks the difference is time: a person with PTSD who was attacked ten years ago speaks about it as though it happened this morning, and is organised around the certainty that it will happen again tomorrow. Past and future have folded into a permanent present.

What happens first

An assessment rather than an immediate start. What happened, what is still live, whether this is the right method for this person now, and whether there is enough stability in their life to do the work safely. Sometimes EMDR is right and begins quickly. Sometimes it is the right method at the wrong moment and the ground has to be built first. Sometimes something else serves better, and that is said plainly.

That judgement is possible because Dr Jacquet is a psychotherapist who also practises EMDR, rather than someone who practises only EMDR. Where it is the only tool available, every presentation turns out to require it.

How it works

Online by secure video, in English or French, on Dutch time, one hour ahead of the UK.

No waiting list. Dutch mental health services had more than 101,000 people waiting to begin treatment in October 2025, with an average wait of twenty-four weeks.

Where trauma sits underneath addiction or an eating disorder, which is frequently the case, it is treated as part of the same work.

Back to psychotherapy in the Netherlands.

Dr Philippe Jacquet is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, a Jungian analyst and an HCPC registered art psychotherapist, with twenty-five years of clinical practice. His Professional Doctorate in Analytical Psychology at the University of Essex examined male eating disorders from the perspective of analytical psychology. Registration can be checked on either public register.

How the work is delivered from here

All international sessions are by secure video, in English or French. Online therapy is not a reduced version of consulting room work: it is the format that lets weekly work survive living abroad, travelling, or relocating. Sessions run in United Kingdom hours, which suits most regions, and if your time zone makes none of it workable, say so when you enquire rather than assuming it rules you out.

For clinicians and treatment services

Dr Jacquet supervises clinical teams in private residential addiction treatment and in a private psychiatric hospital. For treatment centres, psychiatric units and group practices looking for external clinical supervision, including in places where no supervisor of this seniority is available locally, team supervision is also delivered by video. For individual practitioners, see clinical supervision.

Common questions

Does EMDR work online?

Yes. EMDR is delivered effectively by secure video, with the same preparation and stabilisation as in a consulting room, and reprocessing only once there is enough stability to do it safely.

What does EMDR treat?

Single-incident trauma such as an accident, an assault or a sudden death, and complex early relational trauma. It also reaches the trauma that frequently sits underneath addiction and eating disorders.

Is EMDR always the right treatment?

No, and anyone who says otherwise is selling a protocol. It works best on bounded events with a clear before and after. Where the difficulty is longstanding and relational, EMDR is used inside a wider therapy rather than as the whole of it.
