A notebook for what has not yet been explained
This is a place to gather what matters before its meaning is clear. A dream you woke with. An image that caught you and would not let go. A photograph, a few words, a drawing, a recorded voice.
It draws on what Jung called the symbolic life, and on active imagination: beginning with an image and allowing a response to develop, rather than reaching immediately for an explanation. You do not need to be in therapy to use it, and you do not need to be able to draw.
Nothing here is interpreted for you. The notebook does not tell you what a house or a bird or the sea means, because those meanings are yours and they change. What it does is hold the material steadily enough that you can come back to it with fresh eyes.
Open a blank page
It opens empty. Nothing you put on it is sent anywhere.
Before you begin
There is no streak to maintain, no exercise to complete and nothing to produce. A page might hold four words. Work can be left unfinished and returned to months later; that is often when something arrives.
For every journey we need allies. If you are struggling emotionally, do not hesitate to reach out to a professional. If a page becomes more than you want to carry alone, stop and close it. Look around the room, notice the light and a sound and your feet on the floor.
Everything here stays on your computer and is confidential. We do not see or monitor anything, which also means we cannot know when you need help. This is a notebook, not a treatment, and it does not replace speaking to someone. Where something surfaces that feels too large, a first conversation is confidential and without commitment.
What comes next
On the image arriving before the explanation: art psychotherapy. On the wider frame: Jungian analysis, and active imagination.
Common questions
Where is my notebook stored?
In your own browser, and in a folder on your computer if you choose one. Nothing is transmitted to this site or anywhere else. There is no account, no login and no database. Because of that, clearing your browser data will remove anything you have not saved to a folder.
Do I need to be in therapy to use it?
No. It is open to anyone, and no artistic ability or knowledge of psychology is required. You remain the author of your own experience and of what it means.
Will it interpret my dreams?
No, and that is deliberate. It will not tell you what an image means, speak on behalf of a figure in your imagination, or offer a diagnosis. Meaning is yours to find, and often it takes a long time to arrive.
What if something difficult comes up?
Stop. Close the page, look around the room and return your attention to where you are. This is a notebook rather than a treatment, and it is not a substitute for talking to someone. If something surfaces that feels like more than you want to hold alone, that is worth taking to a professional.
