Bodywork and somatic therapy London

Therapeutic Yoga

Yoga in a therapeutic context is distinct from yoga as exercise or fitness practice. Therapeutic yoga attends to the relationship between physical posture, breath, and psychological state — the way in which specific poses affect the nervous system, the way breath quality influences emotional regulation, and the way that sustained practice of body awareness can change the quality of a person’s relationship to their own inner experience.

At the practice, therapeutic yoga is offered as a somatic complement to the psychological work rather than as a standalone wellness service. It is particularly relevant for clients managing anxiety, where the physiological regulation offered by yoga practice can reduce baseline arousal and extend the window of tolerance within which the therapeutic work is possible. It is also used as part of eating disorder treatment, where re-establishing a positive, inhabitable relationship with the body is a central therapeutic task.

What therapeutic yoga sessions involve

Sessions are led by a qualified yoga practitioner working within the integrated therapeutic framework of the practice. They attend to the individual’s specific needs and capacity rather than following a class format, and incorporate explicit attention to the psychological dimensions of the physical experience. Sessions typically last 60 minutes and take place at the Central London office.
